Eye Ball Update

The Wirral Optometrists’ Eye Ball, originally planned for
July 17, has had to be postponed, due to circumstances beyond the control of
the Optometrists Committee and the Forsight Appeal.

The Forsight Appeal Committee would like to take this
opportunity to warmly thank all those who had already come forward to book
tickets for this event.

Appeal Committee Chair Mike Unwin commented: ‘We have had
fantastic support for the Appeal since its launch last October, and every  one of Wirral’s Optometrists have
supported us with our Appeal posters and leaflets in every optician’s  outlet.

‘We would like to thank them all for their commitment and
look forward to being able to get together again in the future to organise an
Optometrists’ fund-raising event.

‘In the meantime, the appeal committee is busy planning a
year of events, and we will be announcing a new gala event in aid of the appeal
very soon!’

Alan's 'The King' of the Road!

This
spring biker Alan Povey, 59, gave The King a run for his money – literally. He donned a fetching red velvet suit and
joined the Wirral Egg Run as Elvis, all in aid of Forsight.

Alan is a
clinical support worker in Arrowe Park Hospital’s eye department, and is no
stranger to to the Egg Run: “My wife and I have been on these runs fairly often
but its the first one I've done in fancy dress (at my colleague Mike Dowsett's
suggestion, to raise more money!)”

This year the Egg Run celebrated its 30th anniversary and a procession of 16,000
bikes roared their way across Wirral raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Alan and his wife Jane (who is a specialist nurse at Arrowe Park and also
raised sponsorship money) took about 1 hour and 20 mins to get round the route on
their motor trike – a motorcycle converted with the addition of a car back end, raising a wonderful £175 in the process.

A long time supporter of local charities, Mike decided to send money to
Forsight this year because, in his words: “I believe in the work you do – especially
raising money for the Eyesi Simulator. G
ood luck in your
fund-raising…”
